Belimumab - Lupus Medicine

Belimumab is a monoclonal antibody that can help control the symptoms of certain diseases, in this case one type of lupus is systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It works by binding to a protein in the blood (which is found in high levels in patients with active lupus) and limit the activity of these proteins.


Usually the drugs are consumed by people with lupus who are also receiving other therapies.


Powder form of the drug is injected solution is only given by a doctor or nurse under the supervision of a physician directly.


Indication

Reduces symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or lupus.

Dosage

This drug will be injected slowly for more than an hour. The first three doses given every two weeks. Then after the third dose, the drug will be given every 4 weeks.
