10 Loyal Football Players

Loyalty can be said that rare thing today. But that does not mean player’s loyalty to their clubs did not exist. Some never even changed the name of the club since the start of his career. Who are they?

Pele


10. Pele

(Santos 1956 to 1974, the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1976)

Pele was ending his career in the United States club, New York Cosmos.  But as a player, he is better known as the legendary Santos for 18 years. "Real Madrid wanted me, along with Manchester United and Juventus," he said in Eurocalcio in an interview in 2009.

9. Sepp Maier

(Bayern Munich 1962-1979)

One of the few goalkeepers who stay at one club - Bayern Munich. Maier become a mainstay of the Bavarians ruler for 17 years. He won many titles including World Champion with nationalmannschaft in 1974. Maier only lost by Danish goalkeeper Lars Hogh who spent 23 years career with Odense BK, appearing in more than 800 games, before retiring in 2000.


Matthew Le Tissier


8. Matthew Le Tissier

(Southampton 1986-2002)

Born in Guernsy Le Tiss, Tissier has an opportunity to play for France. With his talent he could shine with Les Bleus than the Three Lions. But the attacking midfielder had opted to remain in Britain despite playing only 8 times.

One time his partner Alan Shearer to join him at Blackburn Rovers, while Manchester United also interested. Le Tissier chose to stay in Southampton throughout his career. Nothing wrong with Barcelona's Xavi Hernandez admired him and called it "sensational player."


Lev Yashin


7. Lev Yashin

(Dynamo Moscow from 1949 to 1971)

Chosen as the best goalkeeper of the 20th Century, Yashin was nicknamed The Black Spider because his reflex is extraordinary ability. Veterans in three World Cups, Yashin was the only goalkeeper ever won the Ballon d'Or in 1963.

He spent his entire 22 year career with Dynamo Moscow. He remained at the club before his death two decades later in 1990.


Alessandro Del Piero

(Padova 1991-1993, Juventus 1993-present)

Able to get rid of Roberto Baggio in Juventus you must be a special player. That is what Del Piero when the Old Lady recruited him from Padova in 1993.

Often rumored to move to Spain and Britain, Del Piero who is now 36 years old stay at Turin. When Fabio Capello moved to Real Madrid and Juventus frozen out to Serie B, he also chose to stay.

January Ceulemans


5. January Ceulemans

(Lierske 1974-1978 SK, Club Brugge 1978-1992)

For supporters of Belgium, of course, never forget a player who was so dominant on midfield in the 1980's. He is the captain who led Belgium to the rank fourth in the World Cup Mexico 1986 and the national team cap record holder with 96 appearances.

Ceulemans spent his entire career in Belgium. After he moved to strengthen Lierse Brugge in 1978 and lasted for 14 years.

(Barcelona 1997-present)

If AC Milan has Paolo Maldini then Barcelona has Carles Puyol. It was hard to imagine a player 32 years that easily identifiable by the use other costumes than the Blaugrana.
