Final Goal of Anxiety and Panic Disorder Treatment

I wanted to share a little story. Every day at practice, I handle cases of panic disorder and other anxiety disorders. The number of patients that I deal with day-to-day ranged between 5-10 cases and nearly 90 percent of anxiety disorders. The case of anxiety disorders dominate my patients and when you see the statistics of patients, most patients present with panic anxiety disorder and anxiety disorders overall.

Patients often ask me, can they recover. In this paper I will write some information related to healing and what should be achieved in these treatments.

Early Stage Treatment

In the early stages of treatment the patient is expected to achieve a remission or symptom reduction or disappearance of symptoms at all. It is the goal of early treatment. But before reaching remission patients usually have to go through the stages that need to be understood. The first two weeks of antidepressant drug use generally is a very crucial stage. Patients will undergo a change at the start of therapy was either reduced or even experiencing symptoms of side effects.

Talking about the side effects of antidepressant drugs are usually experienced by the patient is tense chief complaint, drowsiness, nausea, sweating or feeling uncomfortable. Surely the reader asks, why taking medication to relieve anxiety symptoms can even more. Note that these side effects is actually related to the effects of drugs that increase serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain or the patient.

Significantly increasing serotonin in the brain requires adjustment. One or two weeks is early days were usually highly individualized. Usually there are also patients who do not experience. Continue treatment even if it's uncomfortable, do not stop in the middle.

Treatment of Advanced Stage

The two weeks that had elapsed usually will give information about the patient and the symptoms to me. If the patient has a change in the two-week period is a good direction, I can assume that little has been given proper treatment.

Why I can not be sure that it is right, because the existence of a response does not mean that the treatment would certainly be a remission in the treatment it. For that we may take up to 8 weeks to assess the drugs we give is appropriate for the patient. 8 weeks usually be important to determine if we will continue with the medications prescribed at the beginning or replace them with other antidepressant drugs.

Psychiatrists typically beginning knowing that every patient has a different match rate for prescription drugs and require a control to see the effects and signs that patients feel.

Maintenance Phase (Maintenance) Treatment

Patients who have been through a period of 8 weeks of antidepressant drug use will usually begin to stabilize. The symptoms usually disappear or greatly reduced. The goal of therapy as mentioned above is the remission or disappearance of symptoms at all will be continued at a later stage that is trying to make the patient's symptoms disappeared and did not recur after taking medication.

For this it must be complete antidepressant treatment. Some references associated with antidepressant treatment suggest treatment passed since the disappearance of symptoms until at least 6 months. This is to prevent a recurrence. The patient is usually intimidating presence of an effect of 'dependence' of the drugs used.

It should be emphasized that the antidepressant drug dependence are not recorded in the literature that many psychiatrists as reference. Class of serotonin antidepressants, serotonin-noradrenaline or the group as long as tricyclic almost never reported to cause dependence like antidepressant group (tranquilizers) such as benzodiazepine. For that real patient concerns were unfounded.

Proper and adequate treatment is the path to recovery and a better quality of life for patients with panic disorder. Hopefully this article useful.
