'Cancer is a Death sentence' That's Just a Myth

Cancer is so frightening specter. No wonder a lot of people who think the cancer diagnosis meant sentenced to death. In fact, many cancer patients are able to recover from his illness.


According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 'cancer is a death sentence' is a myth. Unfortunately, this myth is already spread widely so that even trustworthy people and eventually become a stumbling block efforts to cut the number of cancer cases in the Western Pacific region.


"We need to dispel the myth that cancer is a death sentence. There are effective ways to prevent and detect cancer in the early days. Prompt treatment can cure cancer," said WHO Director for the Western Pacific, Dr Shin Young-soo, as philstar quoted on Monday (04/02/2013).


The announcement was made related Shin World Cancer Day which is celebrated on February 4th. Well, this year's theme focuses on 'dispel harmful myths and misconception about cancer that resulted in more deaths than the combined AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis'.


WHO warned that without significant action the prevention and treatment of disease will not have real impact. Instead of cancer cases decline, precisely the wrong treatment will cause millions of people worldwide die from this disease.


WHO also emphasized that cancer is not just a health problem. Because the disease is also an impact on the social, economic, and human rights. Also underlined that cancer can strike anyone, with economic and educational background whatsoever.


"Cancer is a global epidemic, strike all ages, countries and lower middle-income also affected," he said.
