Definition
Alprazolam is a group of drugs called benzodiazepines which work to slow the movement of brain chemicals become unbalanced. This imbalance is the result of an anxiety disorder.

Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic and anxiety caused by depression.
Alprazolam is also used for other needs which have not been listed here.


Important Information
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to alprazolam or other benzodiazepines such as chlordiazepoxide (Librium), clorazepate (Tranxene), diazepam (Valium), lorazepam (Ativan), or oxazepam (Serax). This medication can cause birth defects to the fetus. Do not use alprazolam if you are pregnant.

Before using alprazolam tell your doctor if you have any breathing problems, glaucoma, kidney and liver disease, or depression and never become addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Do not drink alcohol in conjunction with alprazolam. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol.
This drug is only used by a doctor's prescription. Do not share alprazolam with others, especially in people who have overdosed or drug addiction. Keep this medicine in a safe place where others can not be found.


Side Effects
Call emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this:
• Itching with red spots
• Difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat

Discontinue use and contact your doctor alprazolam if you have the following serious side effects:
• Do not have fear
• Depression, like hurting yourself or suicide
• Hyperactivity, irritability, hallucinations
• Head feels light, fainting
• Seizures
• yellowing of skin and eyes

Other side effects are:
• Drowsiness, dizziness, irritability
• Amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating
• Difficulty sleeping
• Muscle weakness, loss of balance or coordination, talk rubbish
• Blurred vision
• Nausea, vomiting, constipation, change in weight or appetite
• Dry mouth or wet, sweating a lot
• Loss of interest in sexual activity
