New Stent Technology Overcome Blockages Blood Vessel

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is still ranked first cause of death around the world. The disease is usually caused by reduced flow of nutrients and oxygen to the heart muscle due to clogged arteries.

The usual medical measures taken to overcome the blockage with bypass surgery, which gives "the other" in the blood vessels so that blood can pass through the clogged vessels. The vessel is inserted generally taken from existing blood vessels in the legs.

However, the risk of bypass surgery is quite high because it involves a large invasive measures. Thus, an alternative to bypass surgery or stent technology that is commonly known as the "ring". Implantation of a stent in the artery to widen the blocked artery, allowing blood to flow normally again.

According to the specialist heart and blood vessels of the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita (PJNHK) dr. Doni Word, stent technology is a minimal invasive measures that have a lower risk of bypass surgery.

Stent technology began in the 1970s and continues to grow today. Doni said, the latest stent technology is no longer the stent is made of metal, but the organic matter. So that in two years, the stent will be lost from the vessel.

Doni said, this latest stent technology already exists and can be performed by doctors in Indonesia. Advantage of the latest stent than existing stents, among others, can absorb fat and chalk that clog arteries and restore blood vessels form almost to its original shape.

"Unlike stents made of metal that can not be removed from the vessel, the latest stent will disappear within two years, but with the same strength metal stents," said Doni in the launch of Absorb Bioresorbale Vascular Scaffold, Thursday (04/04/2013 ), yesterday in Jakarta.

Although vascular plug can absorb, but Doni kept stressing a healthy lifestyle are primarily post-stenting. "If still bad lifestyle, blockages will occur again," said Doni.
