Viagra Potential to Prevent Obesity

Sildenafil, better known by the brand name Viagra is known to not only have the effect to increase the male virility in bed but also beneficial to health in general. Recent studies have called this anti-impotent drug may prevent obesity.

The researchers found that Viagra can convert white fat cells into fat unwanted cream. Creamy fat will not be stored too long in the body, but soon burned. This can eliminate the pile of fat in your body.

The study, published in the Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology reveals that in addition to potentially reduce obesity, these substances can also reduce the risk of other complications caused by obesity heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Study leader Professor Alexander Pfeifer, of the University of Bonn, said: "Sildenafil is not only able to minimize erection problems, but may also reduce the risk of excessive weight gain."

Pfeifer and his team studied the effects of Viagra on rats for 7 days. As a result the rats became resistant to obesity despite the high-fat fed. "The effect is quite amazing," says researcher Ana Kilic.

Researchers are hopeful that the results of this study may have the potential to fight obesity. In addition the development is expected to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

However, the researchers acknowledge that the study is still a laboratory scale, and require further research. The team said the implications would need to be proven in additional studies. "We are in the stage of basic research, and all the studies have been exclusively performed in mice," said Pfeifer.
