Black Cumin Potential for HIV-AIDS Antiretroviral Drugs

Seeds of cumin or Nigella sativa known as medicinal herbs for treatment. Jintan able to treat a variety of disorders such as immunomodulatory, antiviral, anti diabetic mellitus, cancer, and anti epileptic antiasma.

Content Timokuinon, nigelon and unsaturated fatty acids in the seeds of the black cumin is suspected antioxidative, chemopreventive and immunomodulators. Based on this research, hexane extracts of black cumin seeds (EHBJH) potential to be developed as a chemopreventive agent antikarsinogenesis through cytoprotective antioxidant and immunomodulatory mechanism.

Because the effects of hexane extracts of black cumin seeds can increase lymphocyte CD4, CD8, IFNgamma levels and thus hematoprotektor potential to be developed as immunomodulator in immunodeficient patients, such as patients infected with HIV-AIDS has decreased the number of CD4 cells.

"Seeds of caraway successful in increasing the number of CD4 and CD8 cells and impact on cell populations CD4CD25Treg offering hope to patients with HIV-AIDS antiretroviral therapy as adjuvant therapy," said Dr. Akrom, Kes the open doctoral examination in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, on Monday (02/04/2013).

Although the new scale laboratory research through the provision of hexane extracts of black cumin seeds in mice, said Akrom, known antikarsinogenesis timokuinon have chemopreventive effects in mice. Even the hexane extract of black cumin seeds can reduce 81 percent - 97 percent mortality rate, inhibits liver and kidney damage, and increase the number of leukocytes and hemoglobin.

"Cumin seed hexane extract was also able to reduce the incidence of nodule formation 45-50 percent and 70-90 percent lower rat mammary adenocarcinoma formation induced dimetilbenz (a) antracene," explained the faculty of Pharmacy University of Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta.

According to activity and immunomodulatory mechanisms antihematoksik EHBJH known to increase the number of peripheral blood lymphocytes and increases the number of lymphocytes CD4Th, CD8 and CD4CD25treg. It also increases the weight of the spleen and the number of lymphocytes and lymphocyte activity in secreting IFNgamma.
